Inconsistent implementation of campus policies has been the complaint of BulSUans despite the administration’s steps in tightening the implementation of rules which took effect last July 15.
In a survey conducted by Pacesetter, 45% of the 500 student respondents said that there are inconsistencies in the implementation of school rules, while 29% said the opposite and 26% are uncertain.
“Hindi naman kasi lahat ng guards ay pare-pareho ng performance towards sa implementation ng regulasyon sa pamantasan, minsan sa umpisa lang sila mahigpit. Halimbawa, ‘yong sa paninita sa umaga masipag sila pero pagdating ng hapon wala na,” said Edjay Aguinaldo of BALM 3A.
The administration formally summarized the school policies into a document entitled Campus Security Policies.
“Unlike last year na hinahayaan lang ng mga security guard na lumabas-pasok ang mga estudyante sa ‘ting gates na walang pakialam sa mga polisiyang pinapatupad pero ngayong taon, iba na, mas istrikto na ang implementation at kung nag-violate ay isa-sanction talaga,” said Dean for Student Services and Affairs Engr. Nicanor Dela Rama..
The first two weeks of its implementation recorded 229 first offense violations of school rules.
Campus Security Policies mandates the strict monitoring of complete uniform on uniform days and proper attire on non-uniform days. Haircuts are also being checked, and dyed hair is not allowed unless a school organization allows the student to have it so.
Students have also been banned from bringing in four-wheeled vehicles since August 1.
Moreover, BulSUans have been given a curfew starting eight in the evening and are prohibited to enter school premises on Holidays and on Sundays, unless there are classes or the dean issued a waiver permitting students to enter. Students must also get a gate pass for equipments, gadgets and other personal valuables.
Violation of these rules shall be sanctioned in accordance with the part four, section D, number 16 of the Student Handbook; the first offense subjects the violator to reprimand or one week suspension, while the second offense is punishable with one month to one semester suspension, and the third offense with one semester to one year suspension.
The codified policies were deliberated on by the Campus Security Committee, which includes VP Nicanor Dela Rama, Faculty Union President Hermogena Bautista, Vice President for Planning, Research and Extension Dr. Danilo Hilario, Administrative Officer Isabelita Benedictos, Non-Academic Personnel Association President Gilbert Benedictos, Security Services Director Felizardo Camelon II and Student Government President Jacqueline Gan.
