In partnership with Mundipharma Distribution Incorporated, Bulacan State Univeristy (BulSU) Extension Services Office (ESO) held on August 7 its first seminar concerning women’s health, cleanliness and protection at BulSU Hostel.
Entitled “Better Days: A Symposium on Feminine Hygiene and Safety”, resource speaker Dr. Ronaldo Santos gave lectures about infection prevention, women’s wellness, and how proper sanitation boosts self-confidence, social acceptance and freedom to perform desired activities.
“Ang problema kasi is ‘yong feminine hygiene, hindi na-di-discuss, hindi naituturo nang tama. Ang importance na nakikita ko sa seminar na ‘to is empowering our women,” said Dr. Santos, obstetrician and gynecologist of Far Eastern University (FEU) Medical Doctors.
Meanwhile, defense programs like hand-to-hand combat and survival fighting was taught by Asian Martial Arts Silver Medalist and Kickboxing instructor Voltaire Esponilla.
“We have practical techniques about self-defense na p’wedeng matutunan. Kasi ‘yong pagiging mahina ng babae ang inaatake. Ang goal natin na [palakasin] ‘yong physical kasi iyon ang nagiging target ng masasamang loob ngayon,” explained Esponilla.
The symposium was attended by 265 women from the faculty, different colleges, and satellite campuses, which exceeded the 225 projected number of participants.
"Worth it ang pagpunta namin. Mas magiging active na 'yong mga babae na pag-usapan about feminine hygiene through seminars na katulad nito, kung paano pangalagaan 'yong sarili namin, maitama 'yong mali na gawain dati pati na rin natuto kami ng self-defense. Mas naging knowledgable kami," said Bustos Campus stude, Irish Jade Francisco, Comp Tech 2A.
Meanwhile, ESO Director Amelita Santos visualized that the symposium will be an annual event.
“Natuto talaga sila about protection against infection and protection against attackers. We’re looking forward na tuluyan ng makipag-partner sa Mundipharma,” said Santos.
