“It is easy to forget how full the world is of people, full to bursting, and each of them imaginable and consistently misimagined.” –John Green, Paper Towns
Let’s admit it; we only see the surface, the façade, the face, the appearance. As the cliché goes, “we judge a book by its cover.” We fail to see the substance, ‘yong sinasabi nilang sabaw at laman.

Let’s admit it; we only see the surface, the façade, the face, the appearance. As the cliché goes, “we judge a book by its cover.” We fail to see the substance, ‘yong sinasabi nilang sabaw at laman.
Well, as a self-confessed book-a-holic, I do judge a book by its cover. I mean, who wouldn’t want to read a book with a beautiful and catchy cover? Who would not pick an eye candy for a cover and read the blurb and eventually be engrossed in the book itself? And who would pick a book with a plain, old, boring cover?
Indeed, covers can either make or break a book. Personally, I’ve picked up some books just because of their oh-so-awesome covers only to be disappointed because the thing is basically trash. Metaphorically speaking, book covers reflect on how we perceive things. I mean, we could assess a situation to be ‘okay’ when it’s worse. Way worse than expected. We just like to see what we want to see. We don’t search deep under the surface. *** FCUK conformities! Life is full of moral standards. It is also full of damn-old-shits that say what is right or not. We live in a world where what the society think is right, really the right thing; hence, we are forced to act according to what others see as just. I know that there are norms that we should really follow. For instance, killing or harassing anyone is frowned upon and it should be. Well, who could stomach cannibalism, anyway? There are instances that one really should be following the standards, the set of norms or rules of the society but for some, I rather say not. We can’t just conclude on why people did what they did. We can’t just accuse someone of whatever blasphemous and integrity-destructive thoughts. We need to see the other side of the coin. As my dear friend, Jeaneth, one of our circulations managers always says, “hindi kasi ako naniniwalang naiintindihan ng iba ‘yong sitwasyon maski na sinasabi nila na naiintindihan nila. Hindi kasi sila ‘yong nasa lugar mo.” I think it will all boil down to giving respect to people’s choices, preference or whatever. Who are we to care anyway? Hindi mo naman buhay ‘yon. Sharing an umbrella with some is very intimate. Here’s the scenario: it is raining so hard that Bulacan State University (BulSU) transformed into Bulacan Swamp University (o yeah, hindi naman lingid sa kaalaman nating lahat ang bulok na drainage system ng BulSU; maihi lang yata ang palaka, babaha na). Alas, it is not your lucky day; you forgot to bring an umbrella. The good thing is that your friend-slash-classmate-slash-long-time-crush has one, and this friend-slash-classmate-slash-long-time-crush offers to share the umbrella with you. |
You’re not having a bad day after all. Of course, you have to be really close, physically, so that you won’t get soaked from the rain. It’d be A-W-K-W-A-R-D. But after you overcome the uncomfortable madness raging inside your head, everything will be in a pretty good mood.
To be near with someone you like is a sweet torture. Anxiety slowly builds up until you find you heart pumping blood faster than usual. You even sweat though the temperature is actually cool. You also might be out of words or maybe you panic. Then, a smile twinkles in your eyes. *** It would be safe to say that everyone fears death. Fearing doesn’t necessarily mean that one is afraid of dying. We might be afraid of a love one permanently leaving us. We are left to wonder what would happen after the big blackout. Let’s face it, death is inevitable. No one escapes it. It is part of the cycle of life. But hey, life shan’t stop just because of death. Well, saying death need not mean losing a life or the conventional thing-o about it. Hindi lang naman buhay ang namamatay. Sometimes, we let our dreams “die” because we let go of opportunities. On some point, we actually “kill” our feelings; our emotions so that we can finally let go. Death and Life. Life and Death. It is just a cycle. They actually balance one another. Death actually makes everything fair. I mean, wala namang hindi namamatay, literal. *** People are people; they will judge you. But why would you care with whatever fcuk they say? The important thing is that there are those who got your back. The very few who you trust; those people who love you. ‘Yong mga taong handa kang suportahan at ipaglaban sa kahit anong sitwasyon. They are the ones that matter. I rest my case. Hello dreamland… |
