“Lahat naman ng
BulSUan nagbabayad ng 28php na Pacesetter fee, bakit
hindi lahat nakakakuha ng mga issue ng
Pace?”
This is just the same as saying that we cannot hold a pizza party for just 28php per attendee. Why? It’s because the dough is 20php, the cheese is 10php, and the pepperoni is 15php, for a total of 45php per pizza. Not everyone will have the chance to eat. Makes sense? Not yet, maybe. Pacesetter releases nine issues every year; four or five issues per semester. During the first semester, five issues combined is equivalent to 87php, while in the second semester, four issues sum up is a total of 96php. Not even half of these issues will be sufficed by the 28php paid by the students, considering the demand for a one-is-to-one distribution. Some eyebrows might rise on the idea of releasing many issues despite the limited fund. But then, it is necessary. News keeps on coming as the academic year moves forward, and we cannot hold the news for that long. Another thing is that, Pacesetter carries the name of Bulacan State University in the Central Luzon’s Regional Higher Education Press Conference as well as the Luzonwide Higher Education Press Conference. And in the said tourneys, the different issues are also being graded accordingly and may turn the whole competition around. And again, there is a purpose behind everything. *** “Bakit may mga importanteng concerns at problems na hindi naibabalita?” Those who are supposed to be the source of information, the people involved, refused to speak or reveal any part of the story. We did not protect them. But unfortunately, they chose to protect themselves. Kahit gaano namin kagustong ilabas ‘yong balita, hindi pwede. Hindi pwede kasi walang mapiga. Kahit katas lang, wala. To be honest, it was really frustrating. Sobra. ‘Hindi naman kami makakagawa ng tinapay kung walang harina’. Poor BulSUans, for they were deprived of their right to enter or at least take a peek on ‘heaven’s door’. If you know what I mean. And may our fallen comrade named Transparency rest in peace now and hopefully, be born again. Real soon. |
Q&A Portion
Pacesetter Vol XLI No. 1 Broadsheet Issue Some answers are obvious while some are vague. But either way, we still have to say it. "Bakit ba kailangan pang
i-publish ang mga news
na negative at mga statements kahit na posible
‘tong makasakit ng damdamin?"
A half-baked cake does not taste good. Same goes in journalism. A 'half-baked story' does not serve the readers well. And making the readers feel good does not always mean you're already providing a good service. The best recipe is and will always be truth, not just half of the truth. We all know that the truth often hurts. In fact, it can be a b*tch. It doesn't care if it makes or breaks you. It doesn't tolerate euphemisms. It doesn't make life look positive, it makes life real. If negative issues will not be disclosed to the people, then journalism loses its sense; it becomes an ornament. If harsh opinions stated by someone concerned in an issue will be omitted because of the pain or insult that they may induce, then the sworn duty of journalists will not be lived out. It robs the people's right to see the whole and genuine picture because a part of it was concealed. It is being unfair to them. Pacesetter does not write press releases. We write news. "Bakit ba kailangan pang magkaro'n ng articles na tungkol sa mga experiences about sex?" This is just another actuality that the conservative society of today still can't accept. Let’s face it people. Sex is one of the interests—and I must say, troubles—of the youth. Straight-forwardly speaking, many like sex. Though it’s not like I do too, but I have learned to be open-minded about this because it is a part of reality. It happens. It has been happening. It is not a tale from the other world. However, some still remain hypocrites. Just saying. Sex needs to be featured not for sensationalism’s sake. It has to be explained deeper and experiences about it has to be revealed—all for the intention of bringing readers into the realization of what makes sex wicked, of the limitations that must be instilled into their minds, and of the essence of being open-minded about it, yet still smart. It is for the learning that the readers will or may acquire. There is a purpose behind everything. |
