Fair enough or unreasonable?
Bulacan State University (BulSU) Laboratory High School (LHS) prohibited students to bring smart phones to impose discipline on students, started last June.
Due to reports of the previous year’s uncontrolled involvement of smart phones in students’ violations, the Lab High Committee on Discipline decided to ban the said kind of cellular phones.
“Bringing cell phones which are highly technical are not allowed, we allow those that are for calls and texts only,” said Hermogena Bautista, Vice Chairperson, Committee on Discipline of LHS.
The said regulation is imposed to all high school students, and whoever is caught of bringing and using their smart phones would be subjected to gadget confiscation and would only be returned once the student writes a promissory letter at the end of the day.
“Sa panahon po ngayon, parang kaunti na lang po ‘yong mga [cellular] phones na walang camera, tapos mahirap pa po gamitin. Mas maraming kasing features ‘yong smartphone na useful sa pag-aaral,” defended Jose Emmanuel Eugenio from IV-Mulawin.
On the other hand, Bautista added that the implication of the regulation will be advantageous for the parents and the students at the same time.
“Sa parents, advantage ‘yon kasi hindi na nila kailangan ibili ng mamahalin na cellphone ang mga anak nila, the children won’t be urging them to. At ‘yong students naman, we prevent them from using this technology for the purposes that are not useful for them,” ended Bautista.
