Bulacan State University (BulSU) Security Units together with Malolos Police conducted an ocular inspection on July 18 to monitor everyone who entered the campus premises due to a disturbing bomb threat.
The threat was sent by an unknown BulSUan via text message to Student Government President Jacqueline Gan, who relayed the matter to the Dean for Student Affairs and Services Nicanor Dela Rama, Ph. D.
“Sinubukan naming tawagan [student] kaya lang ‘di na ma-contact, maraming problema ‘yong bata at gusto niyang wakasan kaya niya siguro ginawa ‘yon. Ang sabi sa text: ‘BSU main campus, 3:00 PM sasabog’,” narrated Dean Nicanor Dela Rama.
According to Dela Rama, the student’s rage rooted from an alleged indecent proposal made to the latter by a teaching personnel. “‘Yong student, very desperate kaya ginagawa niya ‘to [bomb threat] kasi sabi raw ng professor niya, in order for him/her to pass, he/she needs to have sexual contact with him,” Dela Rama added.
Despite the revelation of the purpose behind the bomb threat, the administration still alerted the security guards and sought the assistance of the Malolos Police in case of a bomb explosion.
“Nag-patrolya kami, nag-ikot-ikot sa compound and we check the garbage bags. Sinubukan naming i-track ‘yong sender pero hindi na namin ma-trace, madali naman na kasing palitan ‘yong sim nowadays,” reported Deputy Chief of Police Samuel Timbongan, Malolos City Police Station.
Furthermore, a strict inspection was held on every gate and classrooms of the university from 1:00 ‘til 3:00 PM to monitor the entry of the student who threatened to blow the campus. Colleges have also been informed to keep the students far from panicking.
“Unexpected ‘yong nangyari, at the same time, nakakapanibago. In my two years of stay sa BulSU, ngayon ko lang ata naranasan ‘yon, hindi naman sila nag i-inspect ng mga gamit dati,” said Mary Rose Santos, ECE 2A.
Although the expected explosion did not happen, the students fear the next time that BulSU will face another threat similar to this.
“Kulang kasi sila [security] sa gamit. Paano nila made-detect ‘yong bomba kung isang stick lang na pantambol ‘yong gamit nila? Ni walang metal detector o kung ano mang instrument para ma-detect ‘yong dapat ma-detect,” said Josiah Silvestre, BS Biology 2A.
In response to the students’ outcry, Dr. Dela Rama plans to conduct a bomb threat drill regarding the matter and promised to deliver the issue of the insufficiency of equipment for the security guards the next administrative council meeting.
Meanwhile, the university president, Dr. Mariano De Jesus raised his voice over the alleged inhumane treatment of a possible faculty member to the enraged student. “Actually parang wake-up call sa mga teachers na dito sa school, sila dapat ‘yong loco parentis o ‘yong substitute parents. They should take care of the students, tapos bababuyin mo?” De Jesus said.
The college deans were already advised to monitor every teaching personnel who issues incomplete and failing grades to verify whether the students were really subjected to get the said marks.
