Glamour and folk art filled the Malolos Sports and Convention Center on August 15 as the Bulacan State University (BulSU) Lahing Kayumanggi Dance Troupe (LKDT) celebrated its 25th anniversary via free cultural show.
Themed “Pilak: Pagpupugay sa 25 taong Kasaysayan at Tagumpay ng Lahing Kayumanggi”, the Cultural Affairs and Performing Arts (CAPA) spearheaded the event which exhibited Filipino dances to promote the nation’s heritage and arts.
“Syempre, pagdiriwang ito ng 25th anniversary [ng LKTD]. It is my hope that this very significant event will serve as an avenue in the promotion of our cultural heritage,” stated Dr. Herminio Suarez, Director of CAPA.
In addition, BulSU LKDT Adviser Jovita Meneses provided a significant point for the audience especially the BulSUans, “Unang-una, talagang ‘yong bahagi ng kultura ng Pilipino, dapat hindi mawala... Dapat hindi natin kalimutan talaga ‘yong mga sayaw ng mga Pilipino. Although may modernong dumadating pero ‘yong sariling atin na ‘to, dapat manatili.”
The recital included the present and alumni dancers of LKDT who prepared for the concert from March until August.
Meanwhile, organizers of the event made use of planning scheme and requested from the university’s budget for Socio-cultural Fund an amount of 300 000 Php which was allotted for costume and prop materials.
“Bago kami mag-rehearsal, binuo muna namin ‘yong pinaka plano, kung ano nga ba ‘yong gusto naming mangyari sa concert na ‘to. Ginawan namin ng paraan kung paano maipapatupad [ang mga plano],” stated Cristine Bulanon, one of the alumni performers of LKDT.
The concert was divided into two parts—Matinee show where audiences were likely students while Gala show was intended for VIP’s, family, and friends of the dancers; both shows lasted for three hours.
Those who came to see the event were affirmative about their experience and the production as a whole.
"I’m very proud to be a Filipino lalo na’t nasaksihan kong muli ang galing at talent ng mga nag-perform... Ang ganda ng presentation, very colourful, ang ganda ng choreography at tama ang lahat ng kanilang kasuotan. It’s totally impressive pati na rin ang live band. Overall, nakakamangha ang buong production," exclaimed BulSU alumnus Loui Fundaluz, a witness of the show.
