In line with its excellence advocacy, Bulacan State University's (BulSU) College of Education (CoEd) welcomed the Accrediting Agency of Chartered College and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) for their 4th level accreditation, July 25-27.
AACCUP's Level 4 is the highest of all accreditation stages and if CoEd passes, it will earn incentives such as budget increase and credit points that will be useful for graduates when passing job applications.
“It depends upon the approval and the recommendations of the accreditors, when they found out that the pertinent documents are secured and the office is prepared so probably they are acquired to approve us in level four,” CoEd Dean Teody San Andres stated.
On the other hand, BulSU Pres. De Jesus told that passing the Level 4 accreditation is a difficult mission to accomplish and pointed out the facilities as a huge problem.
“'Yong passing the level 4 accreditation is hard to achieve, marami na rin [SUCs] ang nag-attempt pero ‘di nag-survive, sa ngayon ‘di pa natin alam what happen to us, what is important is that we try bagama’t ako mismo, sa personal assessment ko, may areas tayo na medyo ‘di pa gano’n ka-strong, lalo na ang problem sa mga facilities,” De Jesus stated.
CoEd was instructed by the accreditors to keep on grasp in the curriculum of DepEd national level and take a review about the questionnaire and answer sheets of the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET). The college also updated their books, theses and made developments in their research programs and extensions for the quality assurance of the college.
BulSU, if given the chance, will be the third university to have the highest level of a college that teaches education nationwide next to Western Visayas State University and Cebu Normal University, and will be the first in Region III.
CoEd Assistant Dean Belarmino Cruz also shared the preparations they have done in their area in science laboratory for the visitation of the accreditors.
“Nagkaroon tayo ng general cleaning last time, of course kasama na rin 'yong pag-aayos sa science lab, like 'yong pagkakabit ng safety precautions, measurements, including 'yong fire extinguisher, medicine cabinet, mga basic requirements . We feel naman na sa aming area sa lab, we are able to meet [at least] the minimum requirement,” Cruz said.
Another area that CoEd needed to accomplish is to maintain high numbers of passers in the LET exam where they remained above the level of national passers.
“'Yong nakalagay sa level four program, [kailangan] tumaas ang rating ng about 50% above the national passing average licensure, and we do maintain that for several years,” Student Teaching Supervisor Evelina Exconde stated.
Meanwhile, various feedbacks were expressed by the students from the said college, some of which seeks for changes if the accreditation will be approved.
“Sana nga matuloy kasi syempre para sa aming educ [education students] 'yon [accreditation], para tumaas ang level at standards namin, noong level 3 pa lang daw ay mayro’n nang matataas ang nakukuhang puwesto [DepEd] so mas malaking points ‘pag umabot na nga sa level 4,” Joanne Lopez of BSED 1-B said.
