Geared with pure talent and artistic hands, Don Bryan Michael Bunag from the College of Architecture and Fine Arts (CAFA) dominated the ‘KKK On-the-Spot Painting Contest’ held at Inang Kalikasan Shrine, Real de Kakarong, Pandi, Bulacan, June 15.
With the theme ‘Linangin ang Kakayahan, Kalingain ang Kalikasan para sa Kinabukasan’, Bunag’s obra maestra entitled ‘Pamana’ puts him on top besting out University of the Philippines-Diliman’s Jonathan Joven and University of Sto. Tomas’ Stephanie Go who landed 2nd and 3rd, respectively.
“Hindi ko expected na mananalo ako kasi magagaling ‘yong kalaban ko, at saka malalaking fine arts school sila katulad ng UP at UST, siguro nanalo ko dahil sa concept kasi ‘yong sa‘kin daw sabi ng judges, nando’n na lahat,” narrated Bunag.
Bunag, currently the Art Director of Pacesetter, had already achieved awards before such as the Philippine National Oil Company Painting Competition, University of Santo Tomas On-the-Spot Painting Competition and other art-related contests.
Moreover, Jay Marquez, Alvin Sales, Benjamin Alba, Joana Mari Dionisio, Vincent Marcelo, Edward Pasaporte, and Lalaine Menalese, also from CAFA filled the ranks of the Top 12 Juror’s Choice Award.
“We are really producing good artists although we are not offering painting as the major, but kahit na gano’n, we still have a privilege to have a student with this exceptional talent,” ended CAFA Dean Ma. Saturnina Parungao.
The said contest was a project of Bulacan Environment and Natural Resources Office in cooperation with the provincial government aiming to discuss the importance of history, nature and independence of the country. Winners received trophies and cash prizes worth Php25, 000, Php20, 000 and Php15, 000 for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd placers respectively. On the other hand, medals were given away for the Top 12 Juror’s Choice awardees.
