Summer is a season of rise and fall for the College of Engineering (COE) as it produced 9 top notchers out of 171 passers in 6 licensure exams, March-May 2013.
On the field of Electronics Communications Engineering (ECE), alumni failed to retain last year’s standing with 86.05 percent passing rate as the Electronics Technician’s (ET) passing plunged to 47.02 percent. Parallel with this, BulSU fell from being the previous year’s second best performing school to a non-qualified school.
Bringing good news on the other hand were seven Electronics and Communications Engineering graduates led by Shirley May Guevarra and Ian Hope Subardiaga who were among those who ranked 4th in the ET Licensure Examination last April 16.
In addition, among those who landed on the 5th spot were COE alumni Arnel Edra and Charissa Mae Mamangun and the 6th spot were shared by Eduard Allan Castro, Jerome Carlo Cruz and Benjo Delos Santos with passers from other schools.
“Sobrang nagulat ako no’ng nakita ko ‘yong pangalan ko sa top notchers, sobrang saya rin. Noong bago mag-exam ‘yon ang unang nasa isip ko [mapasok sa top], sa ECT Board Exam. Feeling ko, imposible [makapasok sa top] kasi nahirapan talaga ‘ko kaya pinagdasal ko na sana makapasa man, mabait talaga si Lord,” Guevarra said in an interview.
Concluding a passing rate of 78.57 percent compared with the previous year’s 34.78 percent, COE also produced 13 master electricians with two top notchers on the RME Licensure Examination last April 23; they are Electrical Engineering Department’s Mark Alvin Waje who was one of the 5th placers and Roby Louie Mendoza, one of the 10th.
Furthermore, out of 32 BulSU alumni who took the Registered Electrical Engineer Licensure (REE) Examination last April 21- 22, only 12 bagged licenses thus making the college’s passing rate record a minimal drop from 38.89 percent to 37.50 percent.
For Electronics graduates, 44 emerged to be victorious from the recent Electronics Engineer (EE) Licensure last April of 14-15. According to the results, two out of 15 first-time examinees and 42 out of 65 retakers composed a current BulSU passing rate of 55% from the 2012 percentage of 47.50
In the Civil Engineering department, graduates made to be victors as 27 gained a successful result with the Civil Engineer (CE) Licensure Exam, May 5-6.
By the four out of seven first-time examinees and 23 more out of 54 retakers, BulSU passing rate made 44.26% higher than its standing of 24.24%
On the field of Mechanical Engineering department, the reign of BulSU was stolen as its passing rate went down from 53.85% to 25% in the recent Mechanical Engineer (ME) Licensure Exam last March 23-24.
Distinguishing five first-time examinees and 15 retakers, five alumni, managed to achieve the said ME Licensure Exam.
Moreover, 2013 results recognized top performing school as Batangas State University for the ME licensure exam, University of the Philippines-Diliman for EE licensure exam, University of the Philippines-Los Banos and University of Batangas for RME licensure exam, De La Salle University-Manila for CE licensure exam and none-qualified schools for REE and ET licensure exams.
Meanwhile, COE dean Engr. Romeo D. Robles stated that COE envisions more top notchers. “At least, a top notcher per department. Hindi guarantee na mag-top notch, but actually palagi pa rin tayong contender.”
