For the first time in history, Bulacan State University’s (BulSU) College of Nursing (CON) hosted the annual oath taking of the newly registered nurses (RN) in cooperation with the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC) and the Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) at the Activity Center, September 13.
Aside from the host-school, twelve other colleges and universities participated in the said event where more than 200 new RNs from various schools in the province took their oath of profession in BulSU.
According to Yolanda Arugay, PRC board member, the quality of education offered by a nursing school can be reflected from the number of passers achieved per institution. "If it is a high percentage that is reflected in the performance of the school, they may be offering quality instructions.”
Meanwhile, CON Dean Loida Crespo said that the college is well-prepared in accommodating all of the passers of Bulacan despite of the pressure it imposed when the Association of Deans of Philippine Colleges of Nursing (ADCPN) in Region III decided to let all board passers of the province take their oath in BulSU.
“No’ng una kasi, students from BulSU lang dapat ang mag-o-oath taking, pero napagdesisyunan ng ADCPN na dito na gawin lahat, even ‘yong mga nursing graduates na hindi sa Bulacan school graduate pero resident ng Bulacan, sa atin(BulSU) na nag-oath taking,” Crespo explained.
Furthermore, BulSU graduates enjoyed the privilege of taking their oath of profession within the walls of their alma mater.
“Mas okay na dito na lang [BulSU] ginanap kaysa lumabas pa kami ng Maynila para lang mag-oath taking, hassle din kasi malayo. Saka okay din sa amin na sa pinag-graduate-an namin ginawa,” said Christian Alcantara RN, one of the BulSU graduates.
On the contrary, graduates from the other schools expressed their complaints about the preparation of the oath taking ceremony.
“Hindi naman sa hindi well-prepared pero siguro mas may igaganda pa ang naging program in terms sa venue, saka technical matters,” lamented Milca Zandra Palisoc RN of Dr. Yanga’s Colleges, Inc.
