Every students has rights is the battlecry of the Student Government (SG) as they held a poster-making and essay writing contest as part of Students Rights and Welfares (SRW) Month celebration last September 7.
SG-SRW Committee headed the said competitions to raise the students’ awareness of their rights and to encourage them to put it into practice.
“Para maipakita natin in a creative way kahit na hindi sila nagsasalita [kaya natin isinigawa ‘yong contests], sa pamamagitan ng kanilang [participants] art, mapapahayag nila ang kanilang mga karapatan,” explained Senator Patrick Carpio, chairman of SG-SRW Committee.
In the poster-making category, Aaron Salamat and John Verlyn Santos from the College of Architecture and Fine Arts bagged the 1st and 2nd places respectively tailed by College of Nursing’s John Louie Lobo on 3rd place.
Meanwhile, College of Arts and Letters’ Marianne Uson concluded 1st place after dominating the essay writing contest while Mark Anthony Lustre of the College of Industrial Technology landed on 2nd place. Moreover, College of Social Sciences and Philosophy’s Kaleb Punzalan’s writing skills brought him on 3rd spot.
“Ang pagkatao ay hindi nasusukat sa kanyang katalinuhan o antas ng pamumuhay. Ang tunay na sukatan ay ang kakayahang ibahagi ang sarili sa paglilingkod sa kapwa at palayain hindi lamang ang kanyang karapatan kundi ang kanya ring lipunang ginagalawan,” said Uson.
Winners received Php1, 500 for the 1st placer, Php1, 000 for the 2nd and Php500 for the 3rd placer.
